Theft/Fraud Alert

June 8, 2009

On May 28, 2009 OFC Mark Debord responded to the 7-11 Store on Frederick Rd. in Thurmont for a Theft/ Fraud Report.  Officer Debord’s investigation revealed that on May 14, 2009 at approximately 0110 hrs a black male and a black female made numerous purchases or Gift Cards, Cell Phones, and Boost Paygo phone charge cards.  The couple paid for their purchases, which exceeded $1,000, with a credit card.  The business was notified on May 28, 2009 that the legitimate owner of the credit card had disputed the above purchases.  This type of fraudulent activity has been occurring in this region and is the second incident that has occurred in Thurmont.  It is believed that the suspects that are involved in this scam have devised a method to duplicate an account holder’s information onto a usable credit card for themselves.  All businesses should be alerted to subjects making purchases of numerous gift cards and paying with a credit card.  The suspects in this incident are described as:

Black female, medium height and weight, long black hair wearing a black shirt and grey suit pants, and carrying a black purse. Black male, medium height and weight, cornrow braided hairstyle, wearing a red T-shit, long medallion style necklace, and white bracelet on right arm.

The suspects were seen operating a newer model Silver Chrysler passenger vehicle.

Anyone with information in reference to this incident should contact the Thurmont Police Department.
