Statement from Ehrlich Campaign Regarding Gonzales Poll

ANNAPOLIS - Henry Fawell, Director of Communications for the Bob Ehrlich for Maryland campaign, released the following statement today regarding a new poll showing the race for Governor of Maryland is a dead heat.

“Like every survey published in the past fifty days, the poll shows Marylanders are embracing Bob Ehrlich’s positive message of more jobs, lower taxes, and less spending.  It also shows that Governor O’Malley’s negative campaigning has proven to be a major tactical mistake.  We expect this race to remain very close.  Bob Ehrlich will remain focused on reaching out to everyday Marylanders to discuss his plan to lead an economic resurgence in Maryland.”

Poll Shows Maryland Republicans Favor Jim Rutledge

July 21, 2010

Rutledge for Senate Campaign Gaining Momentum

FOREST HILL, Maryland- U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge is considered the most viable candidate to lead the Republican Party in November based on the latest polling data. A poll conducted by Public Policy Polling and released on July 14th indicates that Maryland voters believe that Jim Rutledge would be the strongest candidate to face Barbara Mikulski. Jim Rutledge stated, “I’m encouraged by the poll results which reflect that our citizen-driven campaign is gaining momentum. Voters are engaging on the issues, taking a hard look at the people behind the candidacy, and are rejecting shallow retail politics.”

The Rutledge for Senate Campaign believes the poll provides more proof that Jim Rutledge is the right candidate to take on Barbara Mikulski and her liberal Washington agenda.  This poll contradicts the questionable attempts of the Wargotz Campaign to stand aloof from the field.  Actions by Eric Wargotz and his campaign continue to raise serious questions. Americans are being forced to pay off billions in new debt because of the mismanagement and wrongdoing of those who ran our financial institutions.  At a time when the people are demanding bold leaders who will reject the big money culture of Washington, the Wargotz Campaign accepted $4,800 from Leland Brendsel, the former CEO of Freddie Mac who paid millions in penalties imposed by the Office of Federal Housing Oversight in connection with an investigation of his mismanagement of Freddie Mac.

Jim Rutledge said, “I’ve wondered why Wargotz never shows up at a debate but if I had his record to defend I wouldn’t show up either.  If facing off against a conservative attorney is too intimidating for Wargotz, where is the courage to take the heat in Washington?”

Jim Rutledge is tired of politics as usual and believes Marylanders are getting wearier by the day of politicians who want to keep borrowing and spending their money. Jim Rutledge wants to reform Washington and put an end to the “tax and spend” policies of Barbara Mikulski.

Ehrlich Blast O’Malley Budget Bluster

July 14, 2010

Bob Ehrlich

ANNAPOLIS - The Bob Ehrlich for Maryland campaign today called on Governor Martin O’Malley to retract false statements he made this weekend in Boston at a National Governors Association meeting.  During a panel discussion broadcast live on C-SPAN, Governor O’Malley denied ever “dipping into capital funds” or “borrowing from the future” in order to resolve his budget deficits as Governor.  Video of Governor O’Malley’s comments is linked here.

Yet Governor O’Malley’s last three budgets indicate approximately $2 billion in fund transfers, according to analyses published by the nonpartisan Maryland Budget & Tax Policy Institute.  Fund transfers include the Highway User Fund, PAYGO, and the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund, among others.  Further, Governor O’Malley has indeed “borrowed from the future” by an additional $1 billion just since June 2009, according to Maryland’s Commission on State Debt.

“The chasm between Governor O’Malley’s rhetoric and reality is almost as big as Maryland’s fiscal crisis,” said Ehrlich Communications Director Henry Fawell.  “The question is not whether Governor O’Malley raided special funds or borrowed from the future in hopes of papering over his budget deficit; the question is why he would repeatedly deny it when asked by a journalist.  Governor O’Malley’s denials continue a troubling trend of making statements that simply aren’t true.  As Governor, Bob Ehrlich will be honest with Marylanders about the state’s budget deficit, beginning with the need to lower taxes so that job creators can lift Maryland out of our four year economic downturn.”

Deficit Spending and Big Government Hurting Economic Recovery

July 5, 2010

Deficit Spending and Big Government Hurting Economic Recovery
U.S. Senate Candidate Jim Rutledge is calling upon Barbara Mikulski to show restraint regarding her continued support for legislation and programs that keep driving Americans further into debt. Mikulski has spent a lifetime in Washington helping to create the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression. Legislation and policies supported by Barbara Mikulski are contributing to an economy that continues to falter under the weight of irresponsible spending to pay for a liberal social agenda. Jim Rutledge said, “It’s time to tear up Barbara Mikulski’s credit card”.
This week economic reports show that efforts to stabilize and grow the economy are failing. Manufacturing growth has slowed while jobless claims have risen. Manufacturing activity has fallen to the lowest level in six months and pending home sales continue to decline. Americans don’t believe more spending and higher taxes are the answer. Over 60% of Americans think the Nation is heading in the wrong direction and so does Jim Rutledge.
Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts summed up the philosophical differences in Washington regarding how Congress should provide solutions. Sen. Brown said, “It’s the checking account versus the credit card.” Democrats like Barbara Mikulski want to spend and tax their way out of a recession while conservatives like Jim Rutledge believe we need to lower taxes, cut spending, and reduce the deficit. Rutledge said, “President Reagan showed us that America can grow and prosper by reducing the size of government and lowering taxes.”
Americans are paying a heavy price while Barbara Mikulski and Barack Obama experiment and push for a liberal social agenda which is already destroying the economy of many European Nations. World leaders whose countries are suffocating under a mountain of debt and social entitlement programs rebuffed Obama’s economic initiatives this past week. The solutions are clear to the rest of the world that it’s time to stop spending and reduce the deficits. Jim Rutledge encourages Marylanders to help restore the economy by ending Barbara Mikulski’s spending spree.
