FCC Registration for Fall Semester Classes
Frederick, MD-Registration for Frederick Community College’s fall semester classes begins August 5 and will continue through August 27, 2010. Pre-registration began in April and is available through August 4. Registration for Continuing Education noncredit classes begins July 22.
FCC’s transfer programs offer students the opportunity to earn the first two years of a bachelor’s degree at a cost that is from one-third to one-tenth the price of four-year public and private institutions. FCC’s courses transfer to colleges and universities inside and outside of Maryland.
In addition to associate degrees, FCC offers many career programs to train students for immediate employment. Programs are available to prepare students for jobs in culinary arts, building trades, construction management, business, and gerontology, to name a few.
As of August 2010, all cooking classes will be offered at FCC’s new 6,500 square foot Culinary Arts & Hospitality Institute in the Advanced Workforce Training Center. This new facility at 200 Monroe Avenue in Frederick will enable the program to offer classes during daytime as well as evening hours.
FCC’s building trades program offers classes in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, carpentry, welding, and electrical contracting. Some of these programs prepare students to enter the job market in less than a year.
The Construction Management program prepares individuals to supervise and manage projects on construction sites.
FCC offers a full range of courses and programs in Business Studies, which includes associate degrees and certificates in business management, supervision, management, and entrepreneurship. Students may start their education for a business career at FCC, prepare to transfer to a four-year program, or refine their business skills while continuing in a current business position.
FCC’s gerontology courses are appropriate for those seeking an introduction to aging studies for personal or professional reasons and for those who wish to extend their professional skills into the field of gerontology.
Payment for pre-registered fall classes is due by 7 p.m. on August 4. Students registering for fall classes after August 4 must pay for classes at the time of enrollment.
Prospective students may register in the College’s Administration Building from 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Fridays beginning August 2; the college is closed on Fridays through July 30. Saturday registration for fall semester will be held August 21, 8 a.m.-noon.

Band’s Return to Thurmont Carnival Means More than Just Music
July 1, 2010
Tori Anderson returns to the Thurmont Carnival Friday, July24th
After a brief hiatus from playing the Guardian Hose Company’s annual carnival, the country band Tori Anderson & Possum Holler is happy to get a chance to perform once again for the Thurmont audience. Making a name for themselves in the world of original music, the Possum Holler received high praise for their second CD Substantially Blue. Indie-music honored the CD as one of the best independent albums of the year. The band was also featured several time on cable’s Studio 10 program where their original music episode was awarded critical acclaim from audiences.
Since last playing the carnival, the band has been featured in area publications for its members’ medical conditions as well as their music. In the time away from Thurmont, lead singer Tori Anderson who is also a mid-day radio personality with WAYZ 104.7 fm in Greencastle PA was diagnosed with Systemic Scleroderma, a serious chronic connective tissue disease that results in hardening of the organs and skin, among other symptoms. She continues to take treatments and works to keep the condition under control. On August 14th she is participating in the York, PA fund raising event to help raise money for the Scleroderma Foundation. To get more info go to http://www.firstgiving.com/torianderson .
Her band leader and husband Michael Anderson recently received a kidney transplant and has rejoined the band for this years performances. After about two years of medical attention he is happy to back with his friends on stage and is thankful that he was lucky enough to find a living donor that now has him back on his feet and performing.
“We were extremely fortunate to have the angel of a woman who volunteered her gift for Michael to live normally. She is an amazing person and it helped maintain our faith in just how good people really can be” said band manager Bill Clark. “We know that everyone has their tests in life. The members of this band have gotten closer through all this and the performances feel like gifts.” The band is referring to the 2010 shows “The Counting our Blessings Tour” and will appear at several area venues and events through October.
As expected the band has had limited rehearsal time this year but has managed to add an almost all new song lineup to the set. Tori says “There are some we do very well and others well, we just love doing.. But we have a lot of fun.” Possum Holler blends new and classic a hilly fusion”. “We would like to thank Bob Oxendale and the members of Guardian Hose Company for having us back in Thurmont. We have a lot of great memories of our times there. Great people in that area and they are always a joy to meet.”
Performing in Possum Holler are Tori Anderson on lead vocals; Cathy Moats on lead and harmony vocals; Greg Mills on bass guitar and vocals; Wes Moats on drums and vocals; Mike Anderson on acoustic guitar and vocals and Greg Elwood on lead guitar and mandolin. Tori Anderson & Possum Holler will perform starting around 7:30 pm
Tori is often asked if she feels angry or bitter about the health issues she has been dealt and she always positively responds “I am joyful and hopeful. When life knocks you on your knees, you pray there.”
The band actively supports the efforts to find a cure for Scleroderma and in encouraging everyone to be an organ donor.
